Hi – and welcome back.
Been working at Abbey Road quite a lot lately so took the chance to grab a tourist shot! Well – you have to really don’t you! This shot was taken by recording engineer Geoff Foster who was allowed out of Air Studios to invade Abbey Road to record the James Newton Howard score for…………..

The Water Horse. When the first scene came up I got a nice surprise as it was mostly filmed on Lake Wakatipu – our home in New Zealand.  Another lovely score from James and there is also a guest appearance from The Chieftans to add that special Celtic flavour. The film is due for release around Christmas and the kids will love it – whatever their age. Directed by Jay Russell (My Dog Skip, Ladder 49) from the novel by Dick King-Smith it tells the story of a lonely boy who discovers a mysterious egg that hatches a sea creature of Scottish legend. If I mention the CGI is done by Weta (Lord of the Rings and Kong) you will know to expect the very best.

In March we were in the same studio to record The Nanny Diaries – a comedy starring Scarlett Johansson –  for composer Mark Suozzo. This is due for release in September.

Also in March I did a session for David Julyan for his score for WAZ. David scored ‘Momento’ and‘Insomnia’ and his scores are a great mix of electronics and orchestral. Very clever. And we share the same publisher – the wonderful Eaton Music.

It is almost time to bid a fond farewell to my UK studio as we head off and relocate in New Zealand. Lots of exciting projects coming up over there – of which more next time. Have a good summer – we are off to have another good winter – sliding down a hill on planks of wood. Well – someone has to!
